Achashveisrosh is a classical male chauvinist and sexist -
He objectifies women as tools for his גאוה [showing off Vashti to all the guys at the party and then deposing her when she doesn't comply] and תאוה [bringing all the בתולות for a one night stand/test. Twice!]. If his wife wants an audience with her own husband - she must first submit to his sexual desire and of course needs special permission to even enter his inner sanctum under threat of death. He hadn't called her for the last 30 days. If he didn't need her for something - he ignored her.
At the end he learns an important lesson - women are more than just objects of male lust, desire and ego. They can actually be active players in bravely and cleverly saving an entire nation from destruction.
Mussar Haskel: Even Achashveirosh learns Mussar Haskels.
