In English we say "I believe so". That means - "I think so but I am not sure". In the Torah, belief, Emunah, means that you are SURE! So when the Jews saw the signs performed by Aharon and heard the good tidings of the Geulah they "believed" - ויאמן העם [Shmos 4/31].
Not only that but אמונה relates to the word אומן - someone who raises someone else ["ויהי אומן את הדסה" - Mordechai raised Hadassa i.e. Esther]. our belief GUIDES and LEADS us.
