How many people are there who believe in strong gun control restrictions, open borders, high taxes for the rich, the dangers of climate change, hate Trump, have strong socialist leanings, are pro abortion etc. etc. [somehow all of those items usually go together even though there is not necessary a correlation between each individual topic and the others] and also have more than 5 children?
Approximately ..... ZERO.
Why is this??
Why can't a person believe that guns are dangerous and thus their possession should be limited to very few and also want a large family? Why can't a person believe that a woman has the right to kill her fetus but also want his wife to allow their fetuses to live because children are beautiful? Most people don't believe that it should be legal to kill already born babies, so they must see the value of human life? All of those people are sad when a loved one dies, so they clearly aren't emotionless sociopaths. Why can't a person want free health care and education for all and also want to have a lot of children who will benefit from those rights?
This is my theory. One can argue about each subject independently but the common denominator is that they are all part of the leftist-liberal-agenda. Period. At the basis of liberalism seems to be the conscious or unconscious belief that life is all about ME and MY COMFORT and MY PLEASURE. Children, people feel, will obstruct the fulfillment of their personal goals of a successful career and enjoyable leisure life. Children are awfully expensive and demand endless time, energy and attention. The more - the "worse". It is not that liberals engage in less acts of copulation. Not even close. When one feels unconstricted by G-d or an ancient binding moral code, they actually engage in far more such acts. They just take the means to make sure that the act will be pure pleasure with no further obligation, which is what birth control is. Sexual relations without the natural outcome of a living breathing human being who will then be one's responsibility at least for the first 22 years of his or her life. If they didn't protect themselves and the woman gets pregnant, then they often take two approaches - One is to kill the fetus before it is too late. Another is for the man to leave the lady and thereby force her to provide and care for the child on her own. [This is common in one community in particular that is not PC to mention].
How very SAD!! They are missing out on so much hard earned gratification. The people who have large families are invariably religious [Jewish or li-havdil otherwise]. If you would ask a person, any person, do you wish your children and grandchildren were never born, I don't think you would meet many who would answer in the affirmative. Most people say, even the average American with his 2.6 children and 4 grandchildren [one or two more to come...] that their greatest joy is their children. And how many out there elect to have no children at all? So, so, so, many. And for what? So they can travel? Sightseeing in the South of France or Greece for a week here and there compares to loving and raising children?
It is no coincidence that the VERY FIRST commandment given to man was to be fruitful and multiply. It means a lot of things and one of these meanings is DON'T BE SELFISH!! GIVE GIVE AND GIVE. THAT is what life is all about.
Of course the secular attitude filtered down to many observant Jews as well - and to them I write.
