Three ideas from the shiur for nashim tonght [I thank all those who attended and particularly our hostess Ariella (and her roommates) who not only opened her home but fed people too].
1] Why didn't Avraham involve Yitzchak in the shidduch process?
Rav Avraham the son of the Rambam answers: Yitzchak was so "frum" Avraham knew he wouldn't feel comfortable talking about "girls", so Avraham took things into his own hands. :-)!!!!
2] Why does Avraham when sending his עבד to find a girl for Yitzchak first state the negative [don't take a woman from my Eretz Kinaan] and only then the positive [take a girl from my birthplace]. The halacha says that when making a condition one first must state the positive and only then the negative?
Answer - To teach us that when building a Jewish home one must first emphasize the negative [avoiding all negative influences] and only then the positive [bring in all of what is pure and holy].
3] Hamtakas Hadinim means that when you are in a rough spot you find what is really sweet about it and you accentuate that. There is always something sweet in our troubles. Example: All of the chesed that resulted from the hurricane.
