We are commanded to lay the tfillin on our arms in memory of the outstretched "Arm" that Hashem revealed when he took us out of Egypt. In a very superficial way, yetzias mitzraim was a one time event that happened in the distant past, and remains central to our collective memory and that of all of mankind. However, the reality is that yetzias mitzraim is an event that never ceases. The revelation of the Hand of Hashem in such a public way, and with such a clear appearance on the stage of world history is the explosion of the Light of Soul of Hashem that lives and is active in the world, that Yisrael merited, through their greatness and preparedness for kedusha. This Divine Light shines its rays in the darkness of all the generations. It simply never stops. We lay our tfillin on the arm to remember the outstretched Arm of Hashem that is constantly building and perfecting the world and all human souls, thus elevating us to the level of true simcha and fulfillment in basking in the holiness of Above.
