Writes the Rav [אורות הקודש א]:
What is the similarity between Kabala and science? They both investigate the world and how things work.
What is the contrast? Science describes external phenomena. Kabala penetrates to the depths of the phenomena and describes not only the "what" but the "why". Kabala gets to the source of existence.
Nobody becomes a different person because he studied science. But when one studies kabala it has the power to rejuvenate him and transform him into a new being.
Note: Rav Hutner in the Pachad Yitzchak also discusses the notion that Torah study is CREATIVE and DESCRIPTIVE of a FUTURISTIC world while science just investigates what the human eye can see and intellect can understand.
