הלכות רכילות, כלל א' סעיף א' ב'
סעיף א':
המרגל בחבירו עובר בלא תעשה שנאמר "לא תלך רכיל בעמך". ועוון גדול הוא. וגורם להרוג נפשות רבות מישראל. לכן נסמך לו "לא תעמוד על דם רעך". צא ולמד מה אירע מרכילותו של דואג האדומי, שנהרגה על ידי זה נוב עיר הכהנים. ולאו זה שכתבנו הוא מה שהתורה כתבה בפירוש על איסור רכילות. אבל גם בלי זה עובר לעיתים על הרבה לאוין ועשין אחרים. כמו שמבואר בפתיחת הספר.

איזהו רכיל? שטוען דברים מזה לזה והולך ואומר "כך אמר פלוני עליך". "כך עשה לך פלוני". "כך שמעתי עליו שעשה לך". "כך שמעתי עליו שרוצה לעשות לך". אפילו אם אין גנות בעצם הסיפור , ופלוני היה אומר את זה אף בפניו, ואילו היו שואלין לפלוני עצמו לא היה מכחיש, אפילו כך נקרא רכילות.

דע, שאיסור רכילות הוא אפילו אם אין מתכווין בליבו להכניס שנאה על פלוני. ואפילו אם גם לפי דעתו כדין עשה פלוני שדיבר עליו או עשה לו את המעשה הזה.

כגון ששמעון מוכיח את ראובן על מעשה שעשה לו. וראובן מצטדק שהצדק איתו, ואפילו יהודה מסכים איתו. אם הוא משער שתיכנס שנאה בלב שמעון על יהודה - אסור לומר לראובן שיהודה מסכים איתו. למרות שלדבריו יהודה לא עשה שום עוול כשמסכים איתו, בגלל שהוא עצמו חושב שהוא עצמו צודק.

Chapter 1
This chapter will explain the prohibition against speaking rechilus even if it is completely true, what rechilus comprises, what to answer if someone asked what another person said about him, and all other details of the prohibition.
1) Speaking rechilus contravenes the negative command of "Do not go tale bearing in your nation". Because this is a great sin and causes the death of many Jews, the Torah then writes, "Do not stand by the blood of your fellow". 3) The prohibition of rechilus is even if one has no intent to cause hate and even one thinks that the subject spoken of acted correctly. For example, Reuven rebukes Shimon for saying something about him, and Shimon justifies himself by saying he acted correctly because Levi said the exact same thing about him.
