The question has been asked: Why does Hashem have to tell the Jewish people in the עשרת הדברות not to kill??
Jews are not murderers by nature. Go to jails and see. We are the ones who do the white collar crimes. We steal, cheat, lie etc. [not most of us - but a few bad apples]. The "get your hands dirty with blood" crimes are done by other segments of the population. A quick look at the statistics will reveal who they are....
So why the לא תרצח?
Now I have an answer. I was told that in a community that has already lost many people and many many others are sick, an engagement party took place this past Sunday where about 200 people attended. They are good people, well meaning people, and yet - in a more subtle way than shooting somebody's head off with a machine gun - murderers. [If THIS story isn't true - there have been many other gatherings].
We have been told by ALL doctors and [by now] ALL Rabbonim to distance ourselves from others b/c our lives are at peril if we don't. And these people disregard the instructions and gather together for a party that has no basis in Halacha or Jewish tradition.
Torah Jews being guilty of a subtle but completely forbidden form of רציחה.
No words.
I have no words.
