Governer Cuomo tweeted that "we want to do with gun violence what we just did with Covid".
Does that mean that it will be an excuse to forbid large frum weddings??? "You may not have large weddings because of gun violence". Hey, we Jews - when we shoot at each other - generally don't do so at weddings. "Hey Kallah, can you step aside. I need your father to be an open target. He is my competitor in the nursing home business." Doesn't happen:-).
More seriously...
He also wrote "Over 4th of July weekend, more people in NYS were shot than died of COVID. Victims of gun violence are disproportionally Black and Brown New Yorkers. We are losing young people tragically and needlessly."
Since we live in woke 2021, Cuomo is not allowed to say what color the perpetrators of the violence are. He makes it sound like black people are poor victims of violence through no fault of their own. Saying that most violent crimes are committed [proportionally] by black people is not racism - statistics aren't racist but factual - but rather it highlights a problem which CAN BE FIXED and will BENEFIT that community. Whether it is investing more in education or thinking of creative ways to keep kids off the streets, young girls not pregnant or other programs.
How about this: Far more Jewish people are involved in Ponzi schemes and the like than black people. Am I an Anti-Semite? I hope not. We Jews have a problem - too many of us steal, lie and cheat. Very often - the victims are Jews. Does this mean that we should say "Jews are usually the victims of white collar crime?" No. We should say that Jews often commit white collar crime and the victims are often Jews and we have to a] be wary of ANYONE, regardless of whether he wears a kippah and learns daf yomi and b] we have to think of ways to educate our youth to be honest.
I am not against blacks or Jews. Some of my BEST FRIENDS are Jewish!!! I once DATED [for a short time - until our wedding] a Jewish girl. I am also not against blacks. I grew up in Manhattan and got along great with them. The Rav ztz"l writes that if you love Hashem you can't help but love His creations. We don't judge people by the color of their skin but by the content of their SOULS.
We have to perfect the world and this is done by getting to the ROOT of problems. The same applies to every person on an individual level. Get to the ROOT of the issues in your Avodas Hashem, marriage, other relationships, self growth and middos etc.
