Matza In The Midbar

I was asked how the Jews ate matza in the midbar. There are a number of possibilities raised:

1] They didn't because they couldn't. 

2] The soil in the desert was tillable so they planted and wheat grew from which they produced matzas. 

3] They purchased from travelling salesman as they did other things [see Yoma 75]. But then you have a problem that it wasn't made and watched li-shem matza.

4] The מן was used for matza. But then you also have a problem that it was not made and watched li-shem matza. Also - does מן count as matza??
