Teshuvah begins with the body [we talk about this in our אורות התשובה shiurim]. The soul comes second. First one has to get one's diet in order. Junk food is called that because that is what it is. It destroys your health in exchage for a few seconds of pleasure. Why ON EARTH do we poison our children on a constant basis?
Overeating is also very harmful. Being fat is awfully bad for you. Not moving around enough, driving everywhere etc. etc. is also very bad for you. Not sleeping enough is both physically and emotionally draining and heavy prices are paid.
These are not topics one should talk about too much. They should just be done. Relieving oneself is important but not a topic for excessive discussion. One should have a satisfying physical connection to one's spouse but also not a topic that should ever be discussed with anyone excpet one's spouse - when necessary [or a Rav and/or therapist if there are problems]. Similarly, food, diet and exercise are important but ideally one should talk about deeper things - like Hashem, Torah, Ruchniyus, Middos, hairstyles, emotions etc.
You don't have to sit at the Shabbos table talking about the food [as people so often do]. You can just eat and talk [when you finished chewing:-)] about more important things. It is embarrassing that frum publications have pages upon pages of recipes with mouth watering pictures every single week [just about all unhealthy to varying degreees]. Is there an end to our tyvos??? I mean, every balabuste has ten cook books at home and millions of kosher recipes she can access on line in seconds. And the amount of kosher eateries is faaaaaaar beyond what we need in order to survive [which, after all, is the purpose of eating]. People's food bills? Through the roof.
Torah Jews should not have to take shots to kill their appetites - we should only take shots to kill Hamas. They should instead have self control. They should also see a therapist [and talk to him, too:-)] to discover what emotions lie beneath their eating practices. [As I was writing this a mosquito ate me. Hope I was tasty.]
The Chazon Ish called תאוות האכילה the אבי אבות הטומאה.
Religious Jews go on social media expressing their opinions on endless matters and often lead people astray b/c they promote [wittingly or unwittingly] non-Torah viewpoints. And people don't realize it. [Example: The black yarmulka on a certain world famous pundit's head is no guarantee that he is expressing the Jewish approach to anything.]
