Eretz Yisrael creates a unity for all Jews. Outside of Eretz Yisrael we are individuals. Inside, we are a cohesive unit. That is why the Jews began to be spiritually responsible for each other only after entering the Land:
"ארץ ישראל אשר היא מיוחדת לישראל היא עושה את כל ישראל השוכנים עליה כאיש אחד על כן כשבאו לארץ ישראל נעשו עריבים [אבני נזר שו"ת יו"ד ח"א סי' קכ"ו בשם מהר"ל מפראג נתיבות נתיב העבודה]
It emerges according to this that the more a person is connected in heart and soul the Eretz Yisrael, the more he joins the greater community of the Jewish people.
