Our peace partners |
Just heard a talk on line. A well known Rabbi has the solution to the problems in the Middle East. If the Arabs and Israelis would just listen to each other and show empathy then everything would be good.
He got a rousing ovation. Got paid [I am quite certain] many thousands of dollars and everybody felt good and went home.
Such nonsensical verbiage upsets me. The implication is that we are just so focused on ourselves that we can't hear their plight. Very often, when solutions are offered there is an implicit criticism and this is the case here. If the Israelis would just care more then there would be peace. There is also an implication that people who deny our right to exist are capable of empathy towards us.
I won't even argue because it is so obvious to anyone with any level of objectivity who the aggressors are, who wants to commit genocide and who is on the other side and is completely disinterested in war and killing.
I have known many, many, many soldiers and I have yet to meet one who is interested in killing. All we want to do is live peacefully. When prominent Jewish figures get up in public and level the playing field, placing the onus for peace equally on us and those who want to exterminate us, it is defamatory and very harmful to our international image.
But such people get money, kavod and are thereby fooled into thinking that they have valid points to make.
