Criticism destroys relationships. Criticism also builds people. It all depends how and why it is given. If it is given out of anger and without understanding and caring for the one being criticized then it is terrible. If it is given out of true love, care and understanding in the right way with the right words - then it is terrific.

"טובה תוכחת מגולה מאהבה מסותרת"
אם אדם מוכיח לחברו על דרכו הרעה וסבת התוכחה באה "מאהבה מסותרת" כמו האב המוכיח לבנו, שזה מרוב אהבתו, וכמ"ש כי את אשר יאהב ה' יוכיח, תוכחה זאת הגם שהיא בגלוי, טובה מאד:
