Around a dozen students at Yale University have begun a hunger strike/serious-lose-weight-fast-diet, demanding that the university divest from weapons manufacturers supporting Israel in its war against Hamas.
According to the Yale Daily News, the students began their hunger strike on Friday [except for the meals they will sneak in in the bathroom - as many Arabs do on Ramadan] after the university didn’t commit to a divestment of weapons manufacturers supporting Israel.
Students wrote a letter to Yale administrators last Wednesday threatening to start the hunger strike.
“We will risk our bodily health and wellbeing, in ways that mirror only a fraction of the absolute devastation that Palestinians are suffering right now, until [the University meets our demands],” the letter stated. "We are already sick in the head. Now we will be sick in our bodies as well. Yale’s complicity in genocide must end. FREE PALESTINE!!! FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA - ALL THE GAYS MUST GO FREE!!!"
One of the students added privately that even if the tactic doesn't work - he will lose some extra weight and it will also get him lots of attention, hopefully attracting some of the more left wing extremist hijab-wearing girls on campus. "My social life has gone really dry recently. Like - down south. Where, coincidentally, Gaza is."
