I just saw a video of a rabbi who *may* or may not be affiliated with a certain institution of higher learning in Upper Manhattan. He *may* or may not also wear a big black velvet kippah and black hat.
He is a Talmid Chochom and Marbitz Torah so I am obligated to honor him. But I think he would be OK with people disagreeing with him respectfully [since everybody of note does].
He is a Lefty. His concern in this video is less for the safety of the Jewish people [although he cares about that too], the soldiers, the hostages etc. etc. and more for the rights of the so called "Palestinian" people. They must be EQUAL to Jews in Israel.
He is disgusted by the expression of Jewish superiority ["אתה בחרתנו"?]. He can't stand עוצמה יהודית. It is not about Jewish power. We are a moral people - not a powerful one.
His proof for his beliefs is that Avraham davened for Sodom.
Hmmmmmm.
If the Sodomites were trying to kill Avraham and he invited them into his neighborhood and gave them equal rights - THAT might be a proof for the present situation.
But then Avraham would be stupid.
And then he wouldn't be Avraham.....
The father of the smartest nation in world history must have been an extremely brilliant man.
Hashem picked Am Yisrael as his chosen people and gave THEM Eretz Yisrael. This shouldn't embarrass us. That doesn't mean that we should hurt anybody unnecessarily or be immoral ח"ו. But it also doesn't mean that we should be complete idiots and empower the people who profess to want to wipe us off the face of the planet.
Also - if I held views that went against what 99.9 percent of Torah Jews believe and had no sources [or Gedolim] to support my view, I would pause before posting a video on the Internet expressing my philosophy.
I am FLABBERGASTED.
