BEHAALOSCHA - DIETING TIPS

Shaaalooom sweeetest friends!!!:-):-)

This dvar Torah is dedicated to my beloved friends רודפי צדקה וחסד, R' Yehuda Yaakov ben Dina Chasha and his holy wife and daughter. May they see continued bracha always!!

And to my beloved friends, רודפי צדקה וחסד, R' Shmuel Binyamin ben Tishna Rochel Leah, his holy wife and beautiful children. May they see only chesed and goodness in all the great things they do.

In this weeks parsha the Jews were COMPLAINING!!

A Jewish woman goes to see the rabbi; she complains at length about her heavy headaches.

She whines, cries, and talks about her poor living conditions, her lousy husband, her inconsiderate children, her lack of available money, her health problems, and what not, for hours. All of a sudden, she shouts, overjoyed:

"Rabbi, your holy presence has cured me! My headache is gone!"

To which the rabbi replies: "No madam, It is not gone. I have it now."

The pasuk says

וְעַתָּה נַפְשֵׁנוּ יְבֵשָׁה אֵין כֹּל בִּלְתִּי אֶל הַמָּן עֵינֵינוּ.

Now our souls are dry - all we have is the mon!

What was wrong with the mon? It was GREAT!

The Alschich Hakadosh explained that the way the mon worked was that it nourished our souls. Since the body is connected to the soul - the body was nourished as well.

Adds the Sfas Emes, that this only works when the soul is primary. Only then can soul food nourish the body. But if the soul is only secondary to the body then soul food doesn't work and they need real "body food". Like the type you buy at the local supermarket.

The Jews now said that their "souls are dry". This means that they have had a spiritual descent and thus the mon can no longer nourish their bodies. Only when their soul was on top did the mon do the job but now they no longer have that. We need some REAL BURGERS!! Some Carlos and Gabbies. Some Jerusalem 2 [or Desert 2] pizza.

ועתה נפשנו יבשה אין כל בלתי אל המן עינינו.

We have nothing but this mon!!! Oy vey!!!

This is an amazing idea [or as I recently heard someone say "ide-ehr"]. When someone is spiritual then [mostly] all they need is spiritual food. This applies in our days as well. When a person's life is saturated with activities related to their soul then they really don't need to eat much physical food. Not because they are ascetic but because they are just not hungry. People who are empty inside have to eat A LOT in order to fill that internal vacuum.

When a person is in love they don't get hungry. I remember my wedding. I barely ate and what I did I had to force down. When a person is on an emotional and/or spiritual high then food just gets in the way.

SWEETEST FRIENDS!!!

Let us focus on our soul, lose some weight in the meantime and, most importantly, live fulfilling lives.

With much love and wishes for a delicious shabbos,
