Korach's Negiya

Says the Torah Hakedosha:

ח. Moshe said to Korach, "Please listen, sons of Levi.
ט. Is it not enough that the God of Israel has distinguished you from the congregation of Israel to draw you near to Him, to perform the service in the Mishkan of Hashem and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?
י. He drew you near, and all your brothers, the sons of Levi with you, and now you seek the kehunah as well?
י"א. Therefore, you and your entire company who are assembled are against Hashem, for what is Aharon that you should complain against him?" [Bamidbar 16/8-11]

We have to understand: What is Moshe proving from פסוקים ט-י "your and your entire company" are assembled against Hashem and not Aharon [as it says in פסוק י"א] ? Korach asked in פסוק ג "how can you raise yourselves against the congregation of Hashem" "ומדוע תתנשאו על קהל השם"? So how does Moshe disprove this and show that they are really starting up with Hashem. According to Korach, Hashem has nothing to do with this and it is all Moshe and Aharon who are making themselves higher than the rest? [See the Ohr Hachaim].

It says in Mishlei [16-2]:

"All the ways of man are pure in his eyes."

"All the ways of man are straight in his eyes". [Mishlei 21-2]

Human beings are BIASED - נוגעים בדבר!! They think that the path that they chose is the correct one How does a person know whether his decision is based upon an internal bias or if it objectively the correct decision? The pasuk [Mishlei 4-25] tells us:

"Let your eyes look forward, and let your eyelids look towards you."

This mean that whenever you are about to make a decision, view it as if it has nothing to do with you but rather is about your friend. Look ahead of you at your friend - לנוכח - and decide for him. After you made that decision then you can apply it to yourself. ועפעפיך יישרו נגדך - You eyelids will look towards you.

That is what it means when it says in Avos [2-1]:

"What is the path man should choose? One that is a glory to the one who does it and to [other] men."

Make sure that others who are not נוגע בדבר like you are, also find your actions agreeable!! [See the Maharal in Derech Chaim]

So now we can say as follows: Korach said

"EVERYONE is holy!!" Meaning that everyone is equal. So "ומדוע תתנשאו על קהל השם"-  Why are you raising yourselves above everyone else, making only Aharon and his sons Kohanim!? But we don't find that Korach was willing to forgo his status as a Levi. It wasn't important and valuable in his eyes that he was appointed Levi even though this is also a sign of inequality. "המעט מכם" - Is it small and unimportant in your eyes "כי הבדיל ה' א-להי ישראל מכל עדת ישראל" - That Hashem separated you from the rest of the congregation. It obviously is. But no, said Moshe. It is rather a big deal that Hashem chose YOU "לעמוד לפני העדה לשרתם". Why don't you see that and protest that you were also chosen and that is unfair?? How can you Korach not understand this? It must be that you are totally biased in your own favor  and therefore you don't see yourself as being unfairly raised above the rest of the congregation.

The conclusion therefore is "לכן אתה וכל עדתך הנועדים על השם" - You are not לשם שמים in claiming that you want what Hashem commanded and not what I [Moshe] said. So this is not a battle against Aharon but against Hashem, so "ואהרן מה הוא כי תלינו עליו" - Why is your complaint against Aharon? [See Alshich here and the Beis Halevi in Parshas Vayigash on the pasuk "אני יוסף העוד אבי חי"].
