Kosher Movies

A new book [written by a frum fellow] came out about "Kosher Movies" and the lessons we can learn. I am SURE that the author is well meaning but...

Kosher movies are like kosher pork. Movies are tamei, tamei, tamei. Arayos, nivul peh, violence, bittul zman, leitzanus, kalus rosh etc. etc. And those are the tamer "PG" movies. Even the ADVERTISEMENTS for the movies are forbidden to look at. I unfortunately have to notice them for a fleeting moment when I take the NYC subways.

Anybody who has any desire to be close to HKB"H and to live a life of kedusha and tahara should be involved in matters that are holy and elevating and not watch messed up people playing pretend for millions of dollars. Are there lessons one can learn from movies? Of course. But that doesn't permit contaminating oneself.

ולא תתורו אחרי לבבכם ואחרי עיניכם - Don't go after your hearts and eyes etc. If you are careful about that then the reward is למען תזכרו ועשיתם את כל מצוותי - you will remember all of the mitzvos. From the positive we can hear the negative...

קדושים תהיו כי קדוש אני ה' אלקיכם.
