Loyalty

"בְּנִי! אִם יְפַתּוּךָ חַטָּאִים - אַל תֹּבֵא!"

My son - if you are seduced by sinners - don't go! [Mishlei 1-10]

פיתוי - Seduction is the opposite of loyalty. A person is seduced to do something not because he believes in the value of what he is doing but because he believes in the person seducing him to do this action.

The pasuk says - "פתי יאמין לכל דבר" - A פתי is one who is מפותה - seduced and subverted into doing something wrong. He will potentially believe anything because he has no sense of obligation.

The מדרש says "האמין בעולם ובראו" - Hashem believed in the world and created it. The word אמונה connotes faithfulness and loyalty. Our entire world is predicated on a sense of loyalty to what is right. That is the idea of "תוכחה" - rebuke. We rebuke in order to restore the person to his obligation that he abandoned.

פיתוי קטנה אונס - A ketana doesn't have daas so whatever she does is not her fault. She is just following the מפתה.

In Parshas Behaaloscha it says: "זכרנו את הדגה אשר נאכל בצמרים חינם" - Rashi says "חינם מן המצוות". That is what the Jews wanted. Freedom. Freedom to do whatever they want.

We live in such a world. People want to do whatever they want. "Don't tell me what to do". As Frank Sinatra would sing "I did it myyyyyy waaaayyy". The sense of obligation is missing. I am going to decide what is right and wrong, what should and shouldn't be done. That is because there is no objective right and wrong. Moral values changes every few years [or less]. That opens the door to lots of פיתוי.
