There is still a war going on in the Ukraine. This will not stop thousands of people from going to Uman. אלול ראשי תיבות א'ני ל'אומן ו'אשתי ל'בד. This is problematic for numerous reasons:
1] Is it permitted to risk life and limb to go to a kever?
2] Is it permitted to leave EY to go to a Kever?
3] Is it a good idea to give parnassa to the Sonei Yisrael who benefit from this pilgrimage? Maybe the money could be used to feed hungry Jewish children???
4] There are many shady, emotionally troubled characters who go there and thus bad stuff is also going on. וד"ל.
5] When one's entire Avodas Hashem revolves around a human being this borders on Avoda Zara. This is a problem with certain members of this group and another prominent group in Klal Yisrael who talk endlessly about giving their Rebbe nachas and fulfilling their Rebbe's wishes and Rebbe Rebbe Rebbe while Hashem is sort of in the background. Hashem is the One who got their Rebbe into it but now it is about their Rebbe. As one Rabbi said on a video: When Moshiach comes we will see that the Rebbe פירט די וועלט - runs the world. That doesn't border on Avoda Zara. That IS Avoda Zara.
With the exception of Prof. David Berger, almost nobody talks about this.
I LOVE Rebbes and Tzadikim of all kinds. But the focus of our Avoda is Hashem and no one else. That is the fifth of the 12 עיקרי האמונה.
