Compassion is a G-dly quality and a sign of a Jewish soul. If one lacks compassion he might well not be Jewish [!!! - יבמות ע"ח]. When your own brothers and sisters are suffering greatly and you publicize a letter of "compassion" and "concern" for the very enemy who has caused so much suffering to your brothers and sisters then your soul is sick. This enemy includes people who at this moment would HAPPILY dismember you, rape your wife and cook your children in the oven and others who are are now too young but who will feel this way in a few years time. It is in their blood and in their indoctrination. [Am I saying that there are people who innately hate Jews? Yes, that is what I am saying].
It is the same illness that drives people to give large sums of money to help strangers while ignoring family members. Compassion must start at home.
It would also be very instructive to discover how much of these people's personal funds go towards their own excessive personal pleasures [over the top vacations, state of the art cars, buying expensive food they don't need to eat in restaurants and hotels, fancy clothing they don't need to buy, making six figure simchas including 10's of thousands of dollars on flowers and the list goes on] vs. how much they give to people who lack the basics.
The hypocrisy of so many people I have known is astounding. They talk a big game until it comes to their wallets. This is not just spiritually and emotionally disease ravaged liberals [or Lesbian rabbas whose pronoun is us/we and live with their wife and three cats, two dogs and one hippopotamus] but people firmly rooted in our ideological camp of שומרי תורה ומצוות. They talk about morals and values but then drop 50k plus on one week of pampering themselves while so many lack the basics. The ONLY way they can possible enjoy themselves is by putting the suffering of others [which they could heal with one signature on a check] out of their minds. They will sit in a Sukkah on Sukkos, say a dvar Torah on how Sukkos teaches us that עולם הזה is only temporary and that we should lives simply [ביטול היש in Chasidic terminology], b/c what really matters is עולם הבא while eating a meal that is costing thousands of dollars [one Yerushalayim hotel - 620 shekel per meal per person. For 620 shekel, you can eat for a month] and paying hundreds of dollars to sleep there while they could sleep at home [in their mansion] for free.... When he finishes the dvar Torah, everybody will cry our "shkoyach" "very nice" "well said" "great vort" while being totally blind to the irony.
Only Hashem knows who is guilty and who isn't. It is not my place to judge any individual. So each person has to make an honest חשבון הנפש and not delude onself because after 120 the delusion ends and for eternity the truth must be faced.
How much do we REALLY care about the suffering of others? Talking is easy.
