Choosing The Right Teachers

I profit from a philosopher only insofar as he can be an example.

(Nietzsche - Untimely Meditations III).

There is a certain writer, thinker, academic, speaker etc. etc. He is given a forum to speak and is sought out even by religious Jews. He is also a sleaze bag. He was intermarried for many years and has been in bed with many others [I would assume of  all religions...]. Yet, he uses fancy words, expresses "learned" opinions based on his ignorance and people respect him.

But he doesn't deserve the accolades. More stories recently came out [to which he admitted] about him making him yet worse.

Why am I writing this? Because I want to emphasize the fact that we live in a world of falsehood - עלמא דשיקרא. This falsehood is expressed on countless levels. One must be wary of this because our job in this world is to seek truth. It is false to accord someone so much honor when he is morally bankrupt.

Another point is that one should be careful to choose his teachers and role models. There are certain rabbis and teachers who were found guilty in courts of law for crimes relating to sexual misbehavior or monetary indiscretions. Yet, they have masses of diehard followers who stick with them and throw money at them. And what about the good people who deserve the followers and support? Nothing. There is a long list of charlatans and it is getting longer. And Jews are supposed to be smart.

Insane.
