I often wonder why people who blast their music while driving assume that everybody wants to hear it. The answer I give myself is that it is likely they make no such assumptions but rather couldn't care less what people want. They want to blast there music and to heck with everyone else. No an A+ in the middos category.
I similarly wonder when people bathe themselves in cologne or aftershave or perfume or whatever you want to call it. Why do they think that everybody within a 100 foot radius wants to smell them? What right to they have to invade people's space and compel them to smell something they might well not want to smell. A guy walks into shul after taking an "aftershave bath". EVERYBODY is smelling the guy whether they like it or not. Where does he take the chutzpah from? It is also not like for a second. It could be for the whole davening! [I had a rebbi in elementary school who used to come in reeking of the stuff. Good man. Bad smell!].
So here is my proposition: If you want to wear the smelly stuff then either - a] get the permission of EVERYONE who will have to smell you. Or b] wear enough that you smell yourself but not that others have to smell you. UNLESS of course you are absolutely certain that this cologne/perfume smells SO GOOD that UNDOUBTEDLY everyone will want to smell it and will thank you afterwards....
