This Drasha was probably delivered Rosh Hashana time, soon after the Holocaust.
The Jewish people suffered indescribably during the Holocaust. Without Teshuva we are lost. That is our only hope!!
We have fed our children from the cheap literature [and entertainment!] of the Gentiles, we have choked their natural spiritual inclinations instead of quenching their thirst with the holy waters that emanate from the Beis Hamikdash. The NBA, Twitter and Netflix just won't do it!
However, the Jewish people who have suffered so much bloodshed, will not rest until we are brought back to Hashem.
We want to hear the sound of the Shofar to wake us up and bring us back to Hashem. The very word Shofar relates to the word "שיפור" which mean to improve. "ה' ממרום ישאג" Hashem roars from above with the Shofar. We "hear" the Shofar [as we say in the Bracha "לשמוע קול שופר"] without fully grasping it's heavenly message. And as as Sinai - the sound gets stronger and stronger "הולך וחזק מאד".
תקיעה שברים-תרועה תקיעה. The first תקיעה is a long, straight, unchanging sound from beginning to end, from high to low, which lights the fire in the soul of the Jewish people. When we here this sound we are inspired to Teshuva at which point we groan as is the sound of the שברים תרועה. Then we improve our deeds and come back to our Father's home, which is symbolized by the final תקיעה. We never REALLY changed. We were always connected to the original תקיעה פשוטה - simple, straight sound of the holy Jewish soul. Even when we cried out from suffering, deep down our pain was for the suffering of the שכינה.
Let us sound the Shofar and come back to Hashem and Yerushalayim.
