The Gemara says that one of the names of the Yetzer Hara is מכשול. Asked the Radickover Gaon: If that is true then it emerges that Hashem is ח"ו transgressing the איסור of לפני עור לא תתן מכשול??!!!!!!!!!!
He answered: If someone puts a stumbling block on the street but puts up warning signs and fences around it - then it is not an aveirah of לפני עור. Hashem created the Yetzer Hara but also gave a us an incredibly powerful antidote - בראתי יצר הרע בראתי תורה תבלין.
If a person is serious about his learning - he has a chance. If a person is not then it is almost definitely a done deal - he will spend life in the clutches of the Yetzer Hara, each in his own way.
