Mussar From Eddie Murphy

Chazal say "בראתי יצר הרע בראתי תורה תבלין" - I created the Yetzer Hara and I created the Torah as a spice.

So what is a non-Jew who doesn't have Torah supposed to do in order to control HIS Yetzer Hara?

I don't know the answer.

But maybe if a person, any person, is trained from a young age that he is in this world [among other things] in order to control himself, he has a chance against his Yetzer. Otherwise - he is toast....

Take the famous entertainer Eddie Murphy as an example. [His wiki page lists one of his genres as "black comedy". Funny. My genre is "white comedy". Today, everything is about race...]. Eddie has a least 10 children [it could be in the hundreds - nobody, including Eddie himself, knows for sure] from about 19 women. I can only imagine how much child support he has paid in his life. Probably in the tens of million$$$$!!! [Don't start a collection for him. He is doing OK with the money thing. Foul language and vulgarity sell in the billions].

What's up with Eddie? He takes the bracha פרו ורבו ומלאו את הארץ on the most simple level and he wants to do it singlehandedly?? Mamesh fill the earth with his own children?

No. He is rich. He is powerful. He has a Yetzer Hara. And he has endless opportunities to give the Yetzer what it wants. So he does.

He wasn't raised that we have a good side, a bad side and the challenge of life is to follow his good side. He was raised like most people are that the world is a big candy store and the goal is to get as many candies as possible. Candies come in different forms. The come in the form of, among other things, money, homes, cars, women, clothing, food, women, parties, alcohol, drugs and women. In other words - follow your "bad side" as much as you can without getting into too much trouble if you can at all avoid it. If you play your cards right you can end up with HUNDREDS of grandchildren.

If you were raised frum, then from the youngest age you learned that some foods were kosher and others unkosher. Eating unkosher wasn't an option. Some items are muktza and others are not. Moving muktza on Shabbos was not an option. Certain words you may say - others not. Certain clothing may be worn - others not. Some girls you may marry, others not. The list goes on and on. It is a BEAUTIFUL way to live. Our seemingly endless list of do's and don'ts train us to control ourselves. Those who don't follow the rules do so at their own hazard.

If you read about the life and times of just about any rich and famous person it is always a saga of falling time and time again to their Yetzer Hara, which seemed to be for their benefit and pleasure but ended up destroying their lives.

So we go back to where we started. בראתי יצר הרע - בראתי תורה תבלין. You want a good life? Learn Torah and then more Torah and never stop fighting the Yetzer Hara. He comes in many different forms and every person has his or her own Yetzer. The BEST way to beat him is to be sooooooooooo darn busy doing good stuff, you have no time for his nonsense.
