There are two types of galus. One is when the
Jews are exiled from their land. The other is when we are living in the land
but the Gentiles are pressuring us. The latter galus is worse because it is a
gravely sinful to be in Eretz Yisrael and not properly keep the mitzvos. This
laxity is caused by the Gentile influence and pressures that they exert upon
us. So we prefer not to be in Eretz Yisrael at all rather than to be there and
to transgress the Torah chas vi-shalom.
הן עם לבדד ישכון ובגוים
לא יתחשב – We are separate from the Goyim. On one hand we
suffer a great deal from this separation. On the other hand, it brings us great
joy for it is through this that we constantly remember that we are Jews and may
not mix in with the nations. In the end, they will receive their punishment but
in the meantime the pain they inflict upon us definitely serves a purpose.
The same pattern must be revealed regarding
Eretz Yisrael. Until the Goyim hate Eretz Yisrael, we will not have a complete
hold on it. The more they are distanced from it, the more we are connected to
it.
When total hatred of the Jews and Eretz Yisrael
is complete, Moshiach will come and we will witness the fulfillment of our
tefila וכל הרשעה כולה כעשן תכלה כי תעביר ממשלת זדון מן
הארץ – All of the evil will dissipate like
smoke for the evil kingdom has been removed from earth.
But as long as the nations desire Eretz Yisrael,
its sanctity will not fully revealed. We hope for the time that they despise the
land and that will enable us to merit receiving it in full.
However, there is still benefit that we can
derive from the desire that the Gentiles have to take over Eretz Yisrael: It
helps us appreciate how special and holy the land is, even to the extent that
the Gentiles want it and realize that they have no life without it.
The sin of the spies was, according to Tehillim - וימאסו בארץ חמדה, they despised the Land Of Israel. Our tikkun is to LOVE the land. So there must be a feeling of apathy and even hatred towards Eretz Yisrael from the Goyim together with a feeling of intense love from us and the result will be .....
