The Mishna in Pirkei Avos asks in the name of Rebbe Yehuda HaNasi:
רבי אומר, איזוהי דרך ישרה שיבור לו האדם?
What is the right path that a person should choose in life?
GREAT QUESTION!!! We need to know what is the way to go in life. Otherwise - we can't make a move.
Answers Rebbe:
כל שהיא תפארת לעושיה ותפארת לו מן האדם.
A path that is glorious to the doer and glorious to him people.
Explains the Maharal: Even if what you are doing is objectively good, that is not enough! It must ALSO be pleasant in the eyes of people.
There are too many Jews who are just "maleducated" i.e. they weren't properly educated. They think that they keep the laws and the rest of the world can jump in the lake. They can act however they want, don't have to be considerate, can be super obnoxious, as long as they are doing what they think it says to do in Shulchan Aruch. This is a spiritually fatal error which causes much unnecessary Chillul Hashem. They don't realize [or don't care] that in today's world, almost everybody is walking around with a small video camera and everything they do will likely be broadcast around the world and bring much shame unto Hashem ח"ו and unto עם ישראל. This is a very very very serious problem which is not being properly addressed.
