When we daven our will is elevated. Davening teaches us what we should be desiring. Desire is the ESSENCE of life, such that davening elevates and "sweetens" all of reality. This sweetness reaches the depths of depravity and thus brings rest even to those souls which reside in gehenom because the appearance of chesed and goodness of tfilla sweetens all evil with all of its roots and branches.
כשמתפללים מתעלה הרצון. והרצון הוא התמצית היסודי של החיים, על כן
מתעלים החיים כולם וכל ההויה ע"י עליית הרצון, עד שהכל מתעדן והכל מתמתק.
והמיתוק מגיע עד עמקי תחתית, ואפילו חייבי גיהינם נחים הם, מפני שהופעת החסד והטוב
של התפילה ממתקת היא את כל הרע כולו, עם כל שרשיו וענפיו.
