There is a beautiful legend about the difference between Gehenom and Gan Eden. In both worlds, people sit at tables overflowing with food, but because they cannot bend their elbows, they are unable to feed themselves.
The only difference is that in Gan Eden, people are feeding the person sitting across from them.
We often experience 'Gehenom' in this world when we focus so hard on our own needs that we forget we are part of a circle.
