Everybody is talking about the "peace deal" with Iran.
We ALL know that Iran is as trustworthy as the check in the "I have read the terms and conditions" box. Actually much, much less.
In times like these, perhaps we can find a sense of calm by turning our hearts toward the things we can nurture—the beautiful tafkid we were each given in this world.
Silence (Shtikah): Knowing when to hold your tongue and listening to others.
Calmness (Nichusa): Acting peacefully and avoiding quick reactions to things you don't like.
Cleanliness (Nekiyus): Keeping a clean mind, body, and surroundings.
Humility (Anavah): Recognizing your own faults and correcting them while honoring others.
Decisiveness (Charitzus): Being decisive and firm in your positive choices.
Justice (Tzedek): Acting fairly and treating everyone with respect.
Truth (Emes): Being honest in your speech and avoiding lies.
Frugality (Kamtzanus): Using your resources wisely and being thriftier.
Diligence (Zerizus): Working hard and using your time productively without wasting it.
Respect (Kavod): Treating other people with dignity.
Order (Seder): Keeping structure in your daily tasks and life.
Separation (Perishus): Avoiding negative habits and controlling unhealthy thoughts.
While the world’s headlines will always change, the growth we do within ourselves is eternal. If we focus our energy there, we won’t just find peace—we will become a source of peace for everyone around us.
