The Multiple Brachos Of Multiplicity

Says the pasuk in Parshas Bechukosai:

וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֥ם יָשָׁ֖ן נוֹשָׁ֑ן וְיָשָׁ֕ן מִפְּנֵ֥י חָדָ֖שׁ תּוֹצִֽיאוּ׃

You shall eat the very old, and you shall move out the old because of the new. [Vayikra 26/10]

We have to understand the order, the brachos on the fruits and grain were said already in psukim ד-ה as it says "ונתתי גשמיכם בעתם וכו' והשיג לכם דיש את בציר" - "then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. Your threshing shall reach to the vintage, and the vintage shall reach to the sowing time; and you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely." Afterward come the brachos on pursuing their
enemies in psukim ז-ח and then the bracha in pasuk ט -

"וּפָנִ֣יתִי אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם וְהִפְרֵיתִ֣י אֶתְכֶ֔ם וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֖י אֶתְכֶ֑ם וַהֲקִימֹתִ֥י אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֖י אִתְּכֶֽם"

"I will turn to you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and will establish my covenant with you".

Rashi says:

  אפנה מכל עסקי לשלם שכרכם.

I will turn away from all my dealings to pay your reward.

And the reward will be children, an "erect stature" [קומה זקופה] and there will be a new covenant with you that will not be revoked. Then [two psukim later] comes pasuk י"א where it says "ונתתי משכני בתוככם" - I will place my mishkan in your midst. Rashi explains that this refers to the Beis Hamikdash. Right in the middle of this "shorgasbord" [spell check doesn't like that word. Spellcheck is clearly Goyish!] of brachos comes the bracha of ואכלתם ישן נושן which is a bracha relating to food, which as we noted was already given in psukim ד-ה. Since in the interim [psukim ו-ט] brachos are given about other matters, why does the Torah return to the topic of food [it CAN'T be because Jews love to eat so much...😊]. The Ohr Hachaim and Alshich [both of the "Ha-Kadosh" persuasion] addressed this question.

We also have to understand the bracha itself. Rashi explains:

"because the threshing floors in the fields will be full of new grain while the granaries are still full of the old, so that you will have to clear the granaries out into another place in order to place the new fruit in them (for this requires a dry place to preserve them, while the old fruit has already become dry and may therefore be removed from the granaries)".

In spoken English - there will be a LOT. A bracha of ריבוי - multiplication [and when they put the food out on tables, then there will be "multiplication tables"]. But wait - in pasuk ה we already have a bracha of ריבוי!? Rashi there says:

והשיג לכם דיש את בציר  -  AND YOUR THRESHING SHALL REACH UNTO THE VINTAGE – This means that there will be plenty of threshing-work so that you will be busy with it till the vintage, and with the vintage you will be busy till the time of sowing.

So why do we need two separate brachos for a great bounty of fruits?

I hope to continue בס"ד בל"נ..... In the meantime you can ponder these questions. 😁😁
