Don Shula is a very religious man. When he was young, he was at a crossroads. He wanted to be a priest but also wanted to dedicate his life to being a football coach. What was he going to do??
He elected to dedicate his life to football and became the loooong time coach of the Miami Dolphins. .... As a huuuuuuuuge Dolphins fan in the 70's and 80's and as a religious Jew I am glad he made that choice. One less priest in the world, less Avoda Zara and many many spectacular seasons with the Fins.
If I hadn't gone into learning Torah [and attempting to teach as well], I might have been a sports announcer [that - or a psychologist]. As a religious Jew [and a former Dolphins fan], I AM very happy with my decision. Talking about and analyzing grown men playing children's games no longer seems appealing or interesting on any level.
Lesson - Choose a meaningful vocation. And don't become a priest.
I did the play by play for this game in 1987. Skip to the 1 hour and 23 minute mark for the exciting end.
