Broad Ramifications - Thinking Beyond Yourself

Before a person acts, it is often worthwhile to consider how this will reflect upon his family. If he has parents, a spouse, siblings, children etc. etc. they might be affected by his actions. We don't live on an island.

So a person decides to steal millions from his clients or to do the great "mitzva" of stealing from the government - fine. Your life, your risk, your gehenom. But remember that your act will have repercussions in the lives of others, on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Doing the forbidden act becomes all the more reprehensible because of the pain caused to others.

A man decides that he MUST tell the WHOLE WORLD that he is irresistibly attracted to other men via his Facebook page and through other methods - OK. Your life, your tyvos. But don't think for a second that you won't be hurting your parents and siblings who will go to shul and see people looking at them and know that people are talking about them. That is added to their pain knowing that you will never get married or have a family. He can actualize his feelings without making noise about it [and "just" have to deal with the Torah prohibition] and save his parents much anguish. So before going public - consider the ramifications.

The same applies on the physical level. If you are not worried about Corona - FINE! Your life. Deal with Hashem after you go. But if you are not careful and infect other people then you are possibly a רוצח.

The examples are boundless.

The same thought process has to apply to the Jewish people as a whole. When a frum Jew in Williamsburg or Monsey or the 5 Towns or Teaneck acts in certain ways - this reflects upon EVERY FRUM Jew [and to a certain extent every Jew] in the world. The Gentiles see you as a Jew and that will affect their perception of Jews. If Jews all over the world will read about your behavior, it will profoundly affect them as well. When I see videos of fist fights breaking out among Frum Jews it HURTS. Are they thinking about how many Jews they are punching before they go for the knockout?

When Chasidic groups splinter and engage in mudslinging and it is splashed all over the websites, do the people involved realize that besides transgressing numerous Torah prohibitions they are also causing deep pain to other Jews they have never met who aren't on the "other team" that they so despise?

For that too Hashem will take them to task. Aren't they AFRAID? Don't they believe that they will one day have to give דין וחשבון.

And מדה טובה מרובה. When we act as we should, we reflect positively upon Hashem, the Torah and all of Am Yisrael.

I am keeping it short where I should go on and on.
