OK - so here is the TRUE story.
NO BOOK CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!
NO-BODY AND NO-THING CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
There are books and people who can HELP you on your journey. But in order to change YOU have to do HARD WORK!!! We call it "Avodas Hashem" b/c it is Avoda - [hard] WORK!!!
I have read many great books B"H! Tanach, Gemara, Medrashim, Rishonim, Acharonim, Kisvei Maharal, Sfas Emes, Rebbe Tzadok, Baal Hatanya, Alter of Slabodka, Green Eggs And Ham etc. etc. etc. The greatest of the great. The deepest of the deep. But LOOK at me. I am in a low, pathetic, spiritual state. WHY???????????????????????
It is all my parent's fault. And my teachers. And my [first - and it would seem - my last] wife. And my children. And my community. And my MOTHER-IN-LAW!!!
Actually NOT. It is MMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY fault. Changing is HARDDDDD!!!!
Change requires MUCH MORE than merely reading a sefer - any sefer.
So OF COURSE we should learn, learn and then when we are done - learn yet more. But we have to work on applying what we learn to our lives and think of strategies to BREAK the habits that are holding us back and create new, more effective patterns of behavior, thought and speech.
