Rav Shalom Miller ztz"l spent his Erev Rosh Hashana at the central bus station giving out care packages to soldiers. He wrote:
Always an inspiring experience giving... There was one Lone Soldier. He looked a bit lost. He said to me his parents disowned him and that's why he's a lone soldier. Such a painful tragedy that these things happen.
