The Rif writes that when we blow the Shofar in Mussaf we should really be doing three sets comprised of thirty kolos [תשר"ת ת"ר תש"ת] each time but instead we blow only ten kolos each time b/c of טירחא דצבורא.
Chacham Ovadiah ztz"l pointed out this Rif and said that the extra kolos take a very short time yet they are still considered טירחא דצבורא so we forgo the proper kiyum of the mitzva [which we can do b/c we already were yotzei with the תקיעות דמיושב before Mussaf]. He added that some Netz minyanim end at Chatzos which is a terrible טירחא דצבורא. He also doesn't allow for the saying למנצח לבני קרח מזמור seven times b/c of טרחא דצבורא. Once is enough. [Great for me who always seems to lose count at some point....😀].
I was thinking about that on Yom Kippur when my minyan started at about 5:30 am and ended at about 12:30. Big time טרחא דצבורא. People are tired and hungry. צער בעלי חיים might be an איסור דאורייתא!!! RACHMANUS!!! And it is not like if you daven at a regular pace people can't have kavana. The only Chazan who davened at a normal pace was the Chazan for Neilah. Baruch Hashem. Otherwise we would still be there.... Sometimes a longer davening means LESS כוונה. People, especially in our day and age, have short attention spans. That is why most shiurim are an hour or less. People just can't focus that long. So why keep them prisoner when their minds are wandering anyway.
