At the Yishai Ribo concert there was a lot of singing by the crowd. Some might question that this is an issur of Kol Isha but *everyone knows* that as long as it is not a solo it is ok. Group singing is permitted.
Or is it?
Rav Yosef said: If men sing and women respond, this is licentiousness. If women sing and men respond, it causes the evil inclination to burn as if one were setting fire to chips of kindling. The Gemara poses a question: What difference is there? Rav Yosef indicates that in any case both are prohibited. The Gemara answers: To nullify one before the other, i.e., if it is impossible to ban singing entirely, they should at least stop the most problematic form. [Sotah 48]
There is a faaaaaamous heter of the Sridei Eish but a] it was not accepted by many other poskim and b] it was only for kiruv and not presented as a lichatchila.
For kiruv and to prevent intermarriage poskim have even permitted mixed dancing - so that is not a source for us.
Party pooper??
We aren't against hisorerus or even people enjoying themselves - but Halacha remains paramount.
