Rav Avraham Shapira [former chief rabbi] related that someone told him that before the second World War he wanted to start a Yeshiva and asked the Chofetz Chaim where to open it. The Chofetz Chaim answered "Gateshead". Why Gateshead? Because, explained the Chofetz Chaim, there is going to be a big war but it won't reach Gateshead.
During World War Two not one shell landed in Gateshead.
