HaGaon Rav Moshe Mordechai Chodosh [Rosh Yeshivas Ohr Elchonon - I figured that since they named the yeshiva in my honor I would be able to get a position there but no luck...:-)] once invited the first year boys to his home. His wife served tea and put a plate of sugar in the middle of the table. One boy took some sugar and poured it into his tea. Rav Chodosh saw this and said like a loving father:

"המתקת רק את הכוס שלך ולא את כוסות האחרים. מי שממתיק לאחרים, כל החיים שלו עצמו יהיו מתוקים יותר".
"You only sweetened your own cup and not that of others. Someone who sweetens for others, his life becomes sweeter."
The student said that this was a life lesson for him. To make the lives of others sweeter. [And if it starts שלא לשמה then מתוך שלא לשמה בא לשמה].
