וִ֘יהִ֣י יְ-הֹ-וָ֣-ה מִשְׂגָּ֣ב לַדָּ֑ךְ מִ֜שְׂגָּ֗ב לְעִתּ֥וֹת בַּצָּרָֽה:
And Hashem shall be a fortress for the crushed, a fortress for times of distress. [Tehillim 9-10]
I don't understand - If we are crushed and in distress then how is Hashem our fortress?? Our state of being "crushed" would seem to indicate that Hashem is faaaaar away from us???
Here is a big principle in dealing with crises of all sorts: The ROOT of all problems is the notion that Hashem has abandoned us and that things are BAD.
"How are you today Danny?"
"Bad!! Really bad."
But the MOMENT we do a switch [Modern Hebrew "סוויטש"] in our brains and realize that He is RIGHT HERE WITH US, we are given tremendous kochos to deal with our difficulties.
Within every crisis lies great potential to become close to the source of all Mercy and Love.
אין דך יותר ממי שהוא רשע, ואין צרה בלא חטא, ובכל זאת ד' מקור הרחמים הפשוטים שהם בלא מעורר הוא עמם ונותן להם שיגוב שיתקרבו אליו בקרבה נאמנה להכיר כי הוא יתברך צור משגבם. ואין נועם אחר מזה להיות עמו שמיד שמכירים הכרה זו אין דך ואין צרה, כי כל הרגשת צער וכאב אינו אלא מה שמרגישים בהסתרה שרחוקים מקרבתו ב"ה. לכן בתוך כל צרה גנוז בתוכה נקודה של זוהר אשר על ידה מתקרבים אליו ב"ה וממילא אין עוד צרה ויהי ד' למשגב לדך משגב לעתות בצרה.
