First of all - Happy Birthday [a few days ago] to President Trump!! 🎹🎸🎷
And of course we have to have tremendous gratitude to him for being such a good friend of Israel. The economy seems to be booming and getting even better. Keep it up Mr. Prez!! For a guy who plays so much golf and has his closest employees constantly quitting on him [I am waiting for Melania to resign...] - he is doin' a darn good job😊😊. [Not to negate the LOADDDDSSSS of problems that still need to be solved or at least mended].
On the other hand, I must admit - I CRINGE when I hear him speak. THIS MAN is representing the American people?? OY VEY IZ MIR!!! I didn't like Obama's politics but when it comes to being dignified and level of intelligence it seems that our present leader is nowhere near Obama's level. I am embarrassed. Really.
People often complain about Trump, but HE is not the problem. It is the entire culture. He is the symptom and not the problem. If our culture was less vulgar and more dignified and refined and other positive traits then we would have a President who represents what we stand for and how we live our lives. But instead we live in a culture where Jimmy Fallon has over FIFTY ONE MILLION people following him on twitter. That says a LOT about us [and less about Jimmy].
In a recent interview I was noting how many times he said the word "I". Again and again and yet again. It seemed that every sentence contained at least one reference to himself. Occasionally he substituted "I" for "we" where he meant "I" [as in "we are doing great", "we are really chaging things that Obama didn't"]. When talking about the leader of another country it was all about whether "he likes me" or not. It is FRIGHTENING when all the leader of the free world seems to think about is himself. In the immortal words of Charles Krauthammer:“This is beyond narcissism. I used to think Trump was an 11-year-old, an undeveloped schoolyard bully. I was off by about 10 years. His needs are more primitive, an infantile hunger for approval and praise, a craving that can never be satisfied. He lives in a cocoon of solipsism where the world outside himself has value — indeed exists — only insofar as it sustains and inflates him … (He) is dangerously out of the mainstream and temperamentally unfit to command the nation.”
I read that Trump quickly confirmed Krauthammer’s character assessment by retaliating this way: “I get called names by a guy that can’t buy a pair of pants.” That insult made no sense — unless you knew (as Trump did) that Krauthammer had no power over his legs. He’d been confined to a wheelchair since sustaining a head injury in a swimming pool at the age of 22.
In our world of "selfies" - Trump is elected President.
I once saw an interview with Trump where he was asked what values he taught his children. Loyalty? Honesty? Public service? Compassion? There are many. He answered that he taught them the value of the dollar.... That was all he could come up with.
Welcome to the USA where G-d's name appears on the currency because it is the currency that is G-d. While the pasuk implores is "אלהי כסף ואלהי זהב לא תעשו לכם" - don't make gold and silver your G-d.
When our culture gets out of the mud we will deserve a President with a sense of refinement, dignity and self-effacement.
