What does the Torah say about Illegal Immigration?
Maybe nothing? I mean, Mexico is never mentioned!
A penny for my thoughts [anything to make a penny...]:
The Torah wants us to be humanitarian. The pasuk says "ורחמיו על כל מעשיו". Hashem has mercy for all of his creations and wants us to follow suit [even if we live in a hot Middle Eastern climate and go with the white shirt-dark pants on Shabbos and don't do the suit thing].
The Torah repeatedly tells us to "love the stranger". But who is this "stranger" - גר? There are generally two possibilities according to תורה שבעל פה. Either a גר צדק or a גר תושב. The common denominator is that they both ACCEPT RULES. The גר צדק accepts all 613 Biblical commandments and 6.13 billion rabbinic commandments [not including the 2,134 page "ברכת המפיל כהלכתו"]. LOTS of mitzvos, BARUCH HASHEM!!! The גר תושב accepts upon himself monotheism and the שבע מצוות בני נח. But the notion of strangers living in our midst who don't accept our rules is anathema to the Torah.
So IF these amigos are bringing in drugs and are criminals they have no place in our country. Pashut. If they don't want to acculturate and accept our society's norms they also shouldn't be here. When our ancestors came over, they were very eager to improve their lives in an honest and hard working fashion. And G-d bless them - THEY DID IT!! But many of the people who want to come over are less pure and sincere in their motivations and goals. So we have to be VERY CAREFUL!!
Humanitarian - YES. Everyone is created in the image of G-d? YES! Open borders for anybody and everybody? Dumber than dumb and the cause of irreparable damage to our great Republic. "Illegal" and "Immigration" should be oxymorons. And if we allow it then WE are morons. If they are illegal it means that they aren't following the rules. [What exactly the rules should be is another question].
So it appears to me unless I become convinced otherwise.
But who asked me anyway....
