Is There A "Charedi Hashkafa"??

 Is there one "Charedi Hashkafa"??

The answer is - no and yes [so JEWISH!!!].

NO!!! - A Belzer Chosid [I live in a neighborhood with lots of them, כן ירבו] has a very different way of looking at the world than a Breslover Chosid [even though they both start with "B"]. A Lubavitcher Chosid and a Chazon Ish-nik are extremely different in their Hashkafos. A Brisker is a different world than a ס"ט - pure Sefardi who follows Chacham Ovadiah Yosef. Satmar vs. Ger. Pure Litvish Vs. pure Chasidish etc. etc.

All of these groups are profoundly different in their theology, philosophy and behavior. Yet they are all considered Charedim [by the outside world. Within those groups they would not necessarily consider some other groups Charedi or religious at all.... Not b/c they are bad but b/c they understand Ratzon Hashem in such a different way that the other group is a distortion of Torah in their eyes].

YES!!! There is a common denominator to all groups in the Charedi community. That is that they believe that "religion" is not just one facet of their lives. For a Charedi - his whole life revolves around serving Hashem. Mitzvos and Divrei Reshus alike. Nobody is perfect of course but the base attitude is that we are here to serve Hashem. Period. They don't wantonly do any Aveiros. If they fall -- who doesn't fall from time to time. But there is no philosophy of not keeping any mitzva ["My minhag is to go mixed swimming - on Shabbos and Yuntiv"]. Even when Chasidim daven later than Halacha allows for, for example, they believe that this is Ratzon Hashem. But there is no concept of "I am not that religious - I don't keep that mitzva/aveirah".

Torah is not just a set of rules that they keep but the purpose of every second of their existence.

So you don't have to wear black and white or live in Charedi strongholds like Flatbush, Lakewood, [ולהבדיל בין טומאת ארץ העמים לקדושת ארץ ישראל] Bnei Brak or Kiryat Sefer. But the notion of Torah not being just a "sideshow" in our lives is something we could all adopt as a fundamental attitude.

ובחרת בחיים!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
