There are two basic types of Mussar: One is getting into the trenches, focusing on what is wrong, what is evil, what is harmful, what brings man DOWN.
This is important. We have to know the spiritual dangers that lurk out there.
But there is another approach. It is called "העכערקייט" - Literally - "Highness". A person sets his or her sights HIGH up there. A person is shown what it means to live on a higher plane, above the mud of this world. One doesn't have to talk about how dangerous the Internet is, the destruction caused to one who is not careful about Shmiras Habris etc. etc. Instead, one talks about a life of 'דביקות בה, the Kedusha one achieves when learning Torah, doing mitzvos, davening with kavvana etc. etc.
The first type is important and quite effective at times but the second way is often more powerful. In the video in the previous post, we see how Apple uses "העכערקייט" to get people to buy their product.
When talking to your children - don't forget "העכערקייט"!!!
"Duvie, when you say a bracha with kavvana it is so amazing and brings you so close to Hashem!!"
"Ruchie, when you give maaser from your babysitting money to tzdaka, you become like Hashem because He ALSO takes care of the poor. You are like His special messenger!!!".
