I am a kofer to the entire concept of a father/in law supporting his son/in law who is learning.
Who is supporting who? What is the תכלית הבריאה? To work and make a lot of money in order to have lots of toys?? Or to bring the שכינה down to earth [דירה בתחתונים] and to infuse all of our actions with G-dliness?
The child is supporting the father in working. He infuses all of the father's work with deep, eternal spiritual significance. He gives the father zchuyos that might well help his business in this world but will MOST CERTAINLY give his father eternal merit to the tune of infinite bliss and connection with the Source of Life.
I know so many people who died with millions in their portfolio, they lost it all the second they died and were left penniless. Had they used their money wisely and given more of it to Talmidei Chachomim, then they would have had eternal reward with compounded interest. It never ends. The portfolio continuously expands. INCREDIBLE investment. All of the Torah of the Talmid Chochom and his children [who benefit from that Torah] and their children עד סוף כל הדורות.
And reward is merely the collateral benefit. The most important and central benefit is the fact that one is fulfilling the Will of Hashem.
Mussar Haskel: Find Talmidei Chachomim, help feed them and their families and you have justified the blessing of your existence on Hashem's beautiful earth [besides your many many many other ma'asim tovim!!].
