The candidates for the Presidency emphasize again and again how terrible things are - and when "I" am elected, "I" will .... and then things will be JUST DANDY!! Soooo easyyyyyy!! All we have to do is vote for a candidate and basically all problems solved.
But THEN - they argue about how to solve the border crisis. So many people illegally entering the country!! Some say - decriminalize it!! People are doing illegal stuff - make it legal!! Same logic with marijuana. People are smoking it illegally - make it legal. That is the Reform Judaism theory of life - if people aren't following the rules - change them. That avoids the issue of why these rules existed in the first place....
Others have other solutions. The only point agreed upon by everyone is the the President is a mean-spirited-bigot-arrogant-conniving-lying-should-be-impeached-threat-to-the-free-world-liberty-and-justice.
BUT WAIT!!! Why do so many people want to cross the border? Why do people risk so much to be in the U.S.?? Let them stay home!! HOME-SWEET-HOME!! The answer is that where they live is MISERABLE [HOME-BITTER-HOME] - while the U.S. is the Land of the Free and unlimited opportunity. If we would open our borders to whomever wants to emigrate and every other country would freely allow everyone to come, there would probably be BILLIONS of immigrants. Why? BECAUSE THINGS ARE SO GOOD!!!
So yes, we also have loads of problems. But BY GOLLY, in many respects there has never been another time and place where things were better for people ANYWHERE than in the U.S.A. of today. Never since the beginning of time. [Why then is there so much anxiety, opioid use and suicide? Another post for that one בל"נ].
So let us THANK HASHEM for the multitudinous brachos we all enjoy. Thank you Hashem for freedom of speech!!! Thank you Hashem for freedom of worship!!! Thank you Hashem for free market, enabling people to make so much money which has [as economists teach] extricated most of the planet from poverty [over 95 percent of people on the planet were living in abject poverty in 1820 (like, on a dollar a day by today's standards). Today it is under 10 percent (many of us live on a FEW HUNDRED dollars a DAY). Thanks to Capitalism.]. Thank you Hashem for a country were even the poorest of the poor usually have electricity, running water, a telephone, comfortable, convenient transportation [trains and buses], free schooling for children etc. etc. etc.
This emphasis on what is wrong is downright depressing. You can't live like that. Of course problems should be raised and solutions offered – by the overwhelming amount of good fortune and blessing should never be ignored.
It also goes without saying that the כחי ועוצם ידי and כל יכול attitude of politicians is dangerous and misleading. They know full well that no matter who is elected, in four years time there will be a new pool of candidates arguing that we have so many problems in our country and only if you vote for ME, will they be solved. One of these people will be elected and four years later we will see the same production, all over again.
The Torah has a great remedy for arrogant leaders – it requires that a king take a Sefer Torah wherever he goes. It serves to remind him who is really running the show. We live in an עלמא דשיקרא. Our eyes and senses mislead us. What we can see is very limited in how much it can help and what can help we can't see. The test before גילוי כבוד מלכותו בעולם and משיח is to be cognizant of that. The word גלות comes from לגלות - to reveal. אכן אתה א-ל מסתתר. Indeed Hashem hides. But we know this secret. Let's not forget it and find Him everywhere!!😊😃.
