Many people believe in the message that "We Jews must be part of the world!!! Our job is to FIX the world and not to be separatist. We are a LIGHT unto the nations and NOT the Neturei Karta of the nations!!!"
That is really inspiring!!! Tikkun Olam!! And who has contributed to the world like the Jewish people??!!
But wait!!! Bilam told Balak that there is ONE way to really hit the Jewish people HARD!!! That is through זימה - sexual impropriety, licentiousness. Hashem HATES זימה. As it says "א-להיהם של אלו שונא זימה".
He was RIGHT!!!
This world is FILLED in an unprecedented way with זימה. There is loads of זימה in politics, in the [Israeli] military, in media, on college campuses, in sports, in the medical establishment, in business, EVERYWHERE!!!! The internet is the number one purveyor of זימה and I am not only referring the all of the hard core זנות websites. EVERY website has some element of זימה [except for sites like kolhalashon....]. The notion of Tzniyus in dress, comportment and speech is completely lost on the world. Even the most "mechubedike" [non-Torah] people speak with unencumbered nivul peh. Even in public forums. It is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
So any ben or bas Torah should want NOTHING to do with the "world". We should go to work, act with mentchlichkeit and honesty, make a Kiddush Hashem and then when we don't need to be there we go home, to shul and the Beis Medrash and ESCAPE the Tumah of the world.
So this great ideal of fixing the world and actively engaging it sounds great but practically speaking it is IMPOSSIBLE to escape the זימה and thus we must minimize our contact with general society.
JULY 4TH!!! G-d bless America!!! So much blessing!!! So much to be thankful and grateful for!!! But all of the freedom has also opened up the doors to so much impurity.
