We all want to be liked by others. It is worthwhile keeping in mind the finale of Megillas Esther: Namely, that Mordechai was "רצוי לרוב אחיו". Sure he was a central figure in saving the Jews from complete extinction [with Hashem's help of course]. But still, only "most" of the people were pleased with him.
You can please some of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time.
